The Wave is Bristol’s very own artificial wave pool for consistent all year round surfing. Located in Easter Compton to the West of Bristol it is very close to the M5, junction 18. Super easy to get to if you’re in the South West. In fact, the most effort in the journey is the one kilometre walk from the Washingpool Farm Carpark to the Wave facility. A 2km round trip and a surf session in between means some surfers would rather skate the stretch of road rather than walk.
This is where Sk8 or Die can help. Sk8 or Die can offer you the best skateboard for the Wave.
Choosing a Cruiser
A cruiser skateboard as opposed to a street/tricks/popsicle skateboard will have bigger softer wheels ideal for, you guessed it – cruising. You get more distance from a push, more speed and a smoother ride. Perfect for getting from the car park to the Wave. Cruisers come in all shapes and sizes from Longboards, retro Penny style boards, surfskates and carvers to name a few. Surfskates and carvers try to offer the same dynamic as surfing with the specially jointed trucks allowing a tighter turning circle than conventional trucks.
D Street have some pretty cool surfskates in their line up to get you going.
Another recommended brand for all things cruiser is Arbor. Sk8 or Die stocks the excellent quality Arbor completes in both Portishead and Last Resort Clevedon. Both skate shops are just a short distance from The Wave in a car. The Wave to Sk8 or Die will take you less than 20 minutes. Sk8 or Die and Last Resort both have an extensive choice of skateboards ideal for the Wave walk from only £45.
Perhaps you’re interested in a more versatile skateboard. A skateboard that is good for cruising but also one you can use at a skatepark for transitions and practicing street tricks. If that’s the case then Sk8 or Die and Last Resort are the best skate shops to visit. We have a huge range of complete skateboards perfect for practicing tricks. The Sk8 or Die recommendation is to immediately upgrade the wheels to Ricta Clouds or similar, like slime balls or OJ’s. These wheels are soft for cruising but you can get them in a smaller size which suits street skating. You get the best of both worlds.
Come to Sk8 or Die for a skateboard for the Wave.
