There is strong evidence to suggest the lockdown measures that the British government has introduced are way out of proportion to the actual covid threat. This is especially true for the young of our society.
We have witnessed for ourselves halted recreation, social activity outlawed, orders to stay at home – all anathema to our human way of life. Adults, experienced and wise, can act out of fear and compliance if we want, but what lesson does that set for our kids?
We have a moral duty to keep our kids sane.

The mental and physical health of the younger generations has to take priority over our compliance to knee-jerk reaction rules dished out by the government. That’s not to suggest covid isn’t a real threat and should be ignored, but we have to stay level-headed about its true threat and weigh that up with the government response.
The fact is we don’t know how long we are going to be used as lab rats. Lockdown in one form or another may extend far longer than we’re being led on. Possibly even the reason for lockdown may change over time. To protect the planet, maybe?

It’s not fair that kids should be guilt ridden for wanting to play out. It’s not fair that kids should have their freedom limited by scared older folk. And it certainly is out of order that by osmosis they are burdened with fear of a virus that likely won’t affect them.

My own concern is that kids will grow up living in fear. Because these are their informative years. There could be long lasting effects from this lockdown madness. That’s why it’s important we end it now.
Come 2nd December we have to collectively say ‘no more’.

Sk8 or Die will Remain Open

Sk8 or Die will remain open during November. In good conscience we cannot abide these lockdown measures we do not agree with. The overriding decision for this is certainly not to rebel for the sake of it. Rather, it is to provide solutions for outdoor activity and exercise.
Skateboarding and scooter riding are activities that have been proven without doubt to benefit mental and physical health. Check out this article. Both can be done safely with respect to social distancing. The fun does not have to stop.

Sk8 or Die was established to encourage the kids of Portishead to get skating. Nothing has changed in that respect. In fact, we are pleased to say the demand for skateboards and scooters has only grown in our first two years. We’re here to stay.
